It’s been 25 years since the Spice Girls released their debut album, Spice, and they have something to show for it. That is, in the form of a reimagined version of the 1996 album, dubbed as Spice25.
Released as a way to celebrate the significant success of Spice, Spice25 is a two-disc compilation of the songs fans have come to know by heart, along with a few surprises.
The re-released album also includes several remixes for fan-favorites like Wannabe, Say You’ll Be There, and 2 Become 1.
The Wannabe remix is strikingly different from the original composition and overall style, adding a ’90s Hip-Hop flare to the classic track.
The group also opted to release a lyric video for Wannabe, writing on Twitter, “We never had lyric videos back in 1996, so we wanted to create something special to celebrate 25 years of Wannabe & Spice. We love how it turned out, and we hope you do too.”
If you’ve found yourself pining for some Spice Girls gear amid the release of Spice25, you’re in luck. On October 6, Billboard reported that the girl power trendsetters signed a global rights deal with Bravado, Universal Music Group’s in-house merchandise sector.
The partnership will allow Bravado to handle the Spice Girls’ merchandising, touring, retail licensing, and distribution.
This means that a slew of new merchandise could be on the way. If fans are as obsessed with the band as they were 25 years ago, whatever they release will sell out quickly.
