Showering At Night Is Way Better For Your Health Than Bathing In The Morning

Everyone has their bathing habits, and most people are pretty loyal to their hygiene routines. Those who shower in the morning often claim they can’t fully wake up without a quick rinse, while others who prefer evening showers feel the need to clean off before climbing into bed.

Now, doctors are weighing in on the debate — and their insights are surprising many. According to several medical professionals, showering in the morning might not be the best choice, while showering at night offers numerous health benefits.

While a morning shower can certainly be refreshing, experts explain that an evening shower can help relax the body, remove allergens, pollutants, and dirt, and even promote better sleep quality. Dr. Giuseppe Aragona, a general practitioner, told Glamour UK: “During the day, the body and hair can collect airborne allergens and irritants, dirt, and grime, especially during the summer months when pollen, chemicals, and sweat are more prevalent. Going to bed without showering allows these substances to transfer to bedding and sheets, which may not only result in dirty linens and nighttime allergies but could also lead to itchy, irritated, and dry skin, as well as facial skin issues like acne, caused by dirty sheets and pillowcases accumulating daytime oil and dirt.”

Of course, there are some downsides to showering at night as well. Going to bed with wet hair, for one, is a no-no. Marilisa Sears, artistic director for Marc Anthony hair care, told Allure, “I was told never to go to bed with wet hair because it could result in various bad endings such as fungal and bacterial infections, which could lead to an itchy scalp and dandruff.”

There are pros and cons to both morning and evening showers — so it’s all about personal preference!
