India is the origin of several delicious recipes including street food. With time, several food items have gained popularity across the globe. Be it pani puri (golgappa), dahi vada, vada pav, jalebi, or chat items, India’s diverse culinary heritage has a significant impact on global food culture. Indian-origin settled in other countries churn cash by serving regional cuisine on foreign land. However, it would be surprising to learn about a British chef selling Kolkata’s ‘jhalmuri’ in the streets of London for 18 years.
Though it sounds surprising, British Chef Angus Denoon has been selling ‘Jhalmuri’ on the streets of London for the last 18 years.
According to reports, 18 years ago, Angus, during his trip to India, came across Kolkata’s iconic Jhalmuri. As soon as he tasted it, he instantly fell in love with it. After returning home, he started selling Jhalmuri on the streets of London and has been spreading Kolkata’s love among Londoners.
He loves serving this light, vegan, and wheat-free snack, which is spicy and crunchy at the same time.
Even Londoners love munching this street snack from India’s Kolkata.
The videos shared on Instagram by Jhalmuri Express show Angus sitting on his cart with all the ingredients required to make Jhalmuri. Surprisingly, the Englishman has adapted the Indian style of preparing Jhalmuri and serving it in newspapers. In a few other videos, Angus is standing with his makeshift cart of Jhalmuri.
From the videos, it seems he might not be sitting permanently in a particular place. Rather, he moves all over London to spread the love of India through Jhalmuri.
