When Natalie Winters stepped into her new role as a White House correspondent, the last thing she expected was to be thrust into a debate about her fashion choices. But that’s exactly what happened after the 23-year-old journalist shared a snapshot of her first day at the White House, showing her unique and casual outfit. Dressed in a black top paired with a white collared shirt and a white skirt, her look was completed with white socks and matching sneakers. The caption? Simply: “Officially a White House correspondent.”
The post quickly gained traction on social media, but not for the reasons Winters had hoped. Instead, it sparked a flurry of online commentary, much of it critical of her attire. According to her social media handles, Winter is a co-host of Steve Bannon’s War Room.
Several commenters expressed their belief that her outfit was too laid-back for the seriousness of her new position. “Could you at least dress more modestly? This isn’t high school, it’s a professional and highly privileged position to be in,” one individual suggested. Another added, “Terrific, but rethink the skirt and sneakers. C’mon, you can’t be that dense.”
Naturally, Winters was not about to let the criticism slide without addressing it head-on. In a response on X, she fired back at the naysayers. “Excuse me? A few deranged haters comment that they didn’t like my sweater and this becomes a story? Really?” she wrote. Winters, who co-hosts Steve Bannon’s ‘War Room: Battleground’ digital media outlet, didn’t stop there—she quickly turned the spotlight back on her accomplishments.
“Last time I checked, at 23, I’ve broken more stories than most mainstream reporters. All while graduating from UChicago in three years. The War Room audience is the most powerful in media history—just look at the election results. Or ask Kevin McCarthy. Or Peter Daszak. Or (preemptively pardoned) Anthony Fauci,” she continued.
Winters made it clear that the public’s attempts to discredit her based on her appearance weren’t going to fly. “Sorry your viewership is sinking and your audience has no power. It’s very clear that your misinformation attacks FAILED, so now you’re pivoting by trying to depict me as some dumb, vapid bimbo. Good luck with that. I know the left loves transgenderism, obesity, and ugly people, but you should pick someone else to attack,” she added.
Supporters of the journalist were quick to show their support, with one user commenting, “They hate you because you’re everything they’ll never be.” Another wrote, “The sweater is classic. You are gorgeous. Ignore the haters.”
